Introduction

Perhaps the most popular tourist destination of Beijing, the Palace Museum receives tens of millions of visitors a year. Established in 1925, it is installed in the former imperial palace of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties – popularly known as the Forbidden City. In 1987 it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Meet Qi Haonan, a clock restorer from the Forbidden City

Palace Museum antique timepiece restorer Qi Haonan has recently given a pair of pagoda clock automata from the Summer Palace a new lease of life. In the past years handling those former royal collection, he also finds clues to the cultural communication between the East and the West.
