A major new energy project with an investment of 9.92 billion yuan ($1.37 billion) has been approved for development in Ordos city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The project, led by Ordos Lyuneng Technology Co, will add 2 million kilowatts of wind power capacity and construct three new 220kV booster stations, marking a significant step in the city's clean energy expansion.

Electricity generated from the project will supply green power to key local industrial initiatives, including the Ordos Group's silicon-electricity integrated project and EJM Silicon Manganese Alloy Co's silico-manganese alloy project.

The project is expected to produce approximately 5.63 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually,  resulting in estimated annual savings of 1.70 million metric tons of standard coal and emission reductions of 4.63 million tons of carbon dioxide and 434 tons of sulfur dioxide.

The project is set to play a critical role in easing energy consumption pressures in the Otog Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone while contributing to the region's economic restructuring, green transition, and long-term sustainable development goals.
