Look at this mesmerizing stone snake from the Shang and Zhou dynasties (c.16 century-256 BC). Carved from gray-black sandstone, its coiled S-shaped body and triangular head make it a striking artifact. The red-painted mouth and raised ridge along its spine add to its vividness.

Discovered at the Jinsha site in Chengdu, this snake was likely used in ancient Shu Kingdom rituals. Now, it is in the permanent collection of the Jinsha Site Museum.
