China's foreign trade records steady performances in first two months

China's exports rose 3.4 percent year-on-year to 3.88 trillion yuan ($535.58 billion) in the first two months of 2025, while its imports dropped 7.3 percent on a yearly basis to 2.66 trillion yuan, data from the General Administration of Customs showed on Friday.

The country's foreign trade recorded steady performances during these two months, reaching 6.54 trillion yuan. This represents a moderate decrease of 1.2 percent from a year earlier.

The GAC reported that after excluding the impact of incomparable factors, China's foreign trade value grew by 1.7 percent year over year between January and February.

In the meantime, China's private businesses achieved a foreign trade value of 3.69 trillion yuan, up 2 percent on a yearly basis, accounting for 56.4 percent of the country's total export and import value, which is an increase of 1.8 percentage points from the same period last year.

China's exports of electromechanical products amounted to 2.33 trillion yuan in the first two months, marking a 5.4 percent increase year-on-year and accounting for 60 percent of the nation's total export value, statistics from the administration showed.
