China has recently spearheaded the development of an international standard for elderly care robots, which the International Electrotechnical Commission has released. Notably, a Wuxi-based enterprise successfully produced the country's first elderly care robot last year.

Made by Jiangsu Aiyuwencheng Pension Robot Co, the elderly care robot "Da Tou A Liang" debuted at the International Exhibition of Senior Care, Rehabilitation Medicine and Healthcare, Shanghai 2024.

As the first Chinese enterprise dedicated to home elderly care robots, Aiyuwencheng has developed its first-generation product since 2020. In less than four years, the company has iterated its robots to version 4.0, and the initial batch of over 100 robots was quickly sold out upon entering the market.

What can elderly care robots do?

"It's like having a butler at home, constantly 'moving around' within the visible range of the elderly," said a company technician. In addition to medication reminders, meal assistance, and news playback services, the robot facilitates video calls with family members. It can provide preliminary health checks and emergency calls and aid online shopping.

Tailored for home care services, smart social interactions, security, and the needs of elderly individuals living independently, the fourth-generation boasts 13 application functions. It assists older people in health care, safety, household tasks, social engagements, and reminders and delivers round-the-clock intelligent services for at-home elderly care.
