Taizhou, Jiangsu, held a citywide education conference to accelerate the development of a high-quality education system.
In recent years, Taizhou has prioritized education by allocating the best resources, implementing major reforms, and providing extensive support. The city has focused on expanding high-quality educational resources, enhancing teaching quality, and strengthening the teaching workforce. A series of policies promoting education as a top priority have been introduced.
"We will optimize school distribution, allocate teaching resources effectively, and improve the quality of schools across the city, ensuring that every school meets the public's expectations for balanced and high-quality education," said Wan Yongliang, director of the Taizhou Education Bureau.
Since 2021, Taizhou has invested 12.37 billion yuan ($1.71 billion) to build, renovate, or expand 193 schools and kindergartens, adding an admission quota of 90,500. The city has also established 135 educational groups, covering all primary and secondary schools, including rural and previously underperforming institutions.
Education is also closely linked to industrial growth. Taizhou is strengthening its landmark industries, particularly healthcare, marine engineering, and high-tech shipbuilding.
"Our university will continue to collaborate with local industries and deepen industry-education integration," said Ji Sai, president of Taizhou University. The university is developing specialized schools in healthcare, shipbuilding and electromechanics, chemistry and materials, information engineering, and intelligent manufacturing. It aims to expand its pharmaceutical programs, refine automation courses, and deepen smart application technology programs.
During the conference, Taizhou also set a goal to become a leading education hub by 2030. By then, the city aims to have a fully established, high-quality education system that ranks among the top in Jiangsu province.
