Yantai to lead high-quality development in Shandong

Focusing on the construction of high-quality development demonstration cities, Yantai took swift action after the end of the Spring Festival holiday to provide guidance on key tasks for the new year.

The meeting held on Feb 6 outlined the crucial role of Yantai in the development of Shandong province, suggesting that Yantai, along with Jinan and Qingdao, should enhance urban competitiveness and drive regional coordinated development across the province.

After surpassing a GDP of 1 trillion yuan ($137.2 billion) in 2023, Yantai's GDP reached 1.08 trillion yuan in 2024, with growth rate of 6.1 percent, exceeding the national and provincial averages by 1.1 and 0.4 percentage points, respectively. Yantai has significantly increased the size, influence, and driving force of its economy.

In order to strengthen its leading role, Yantai will focus on becoming a green, low-carbon, high-quality development demonstration city. The city aims to continuously enhance the core competitiveness of its modern industrial system, lead the nation in the comprehensive utilization of clean energy, significantly improve its green, low-carbon technological innovation capabilities, optimize the regional urban-rural coordinated development pattern, and enhance the urban living environment and residents' quality of life.

By 2030, Yantai hopes to be a fully green, low-carbon, high-quality development demonstration city and will contribute to the overall development of the province by sharing its experiences.
