Dunhuang art program surges in popularity

At the Intangible Cultural Heritage Dunhuang Colored Sculpture Training Center of Jiuquan Vocational and Technical College, international students proudly showcased their handcrafted Dunhuang-inspired cultural products. This initiative reflects the blend of art and tradition that has become an integral part of the college's innovative curriculum.

As the Chinese New Year approaches, both domestic and international students are actively engaging in diverse mural art experiences, eager to bring their self-made traditional Chinese cultural products home to their families during the holiday break.

In 2024, Wang Quanchao, director of the Dunhuang Mural Art Heritage and Innovation Studio, introduced the groundbreaking "Chinese Language plus Dunhuang Mural Art" program. This initiative transformed traditional teaching by showcasing 1:1 scale replicas of iconic Dunhuang cave murals and colored sculptures, offering an immersive, scenario-based learning experience.

The program, situated in Jiuquan - historically known as the 'Homeland of Flying Apsaras' - combines language education with hands-on artistic practice, reflecting a modern approach to preserving and promoting traditional Chinese cultural heritage."
