Zoucheng Museum, or the Zoucheng City Cultural Relics Protection Center, is located in Zoucheng, the hometown of Mencius.
The museum has two floors devoted to a special exhibition on Mencius, highlighting his life, ideas, and enduring influence. This section provides an essential resource for understanding Mencius and exploring traditional Chinese culture.
As of the end of 2023, Zoucheng Museum's collection had expanded to 121,665 items, of which 256 are classified as precious cultural relics. The artifacts cover 32 categories, ranging from bronze and stone to pottery, inscriptions, porcelain and ancient books.
The museum is especially noted for its impressive collection of prehistoric pottery, Shang and Zhou dynasty bronzes (c. 16th century-256 BC), Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) steles and stone carvings, Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) costumes, and archives from the Mansion of the Mencius Family. These collections vividly reflect the rich heritage and charm of the ancient Zou and Lu states.
