On December 5, the 6DV gigafactory of FAW Jiefang, a truck subsidiary of leading Chinese automaker FAW Group, began operations in Jinpu New Area in Dalian. Its first hydrogen engine, the CA6HV3, was also unveiled on the same day.
Construction of the gigafactory began in July 2022 with a total investment of 620 million yuan ($86.26 million).
The facility focuses on the production of the company's 6DV-series diesel engines. With an annual production capacity of 50,000 engines, it has integrated new technologies to enhance the green and intelligent manufacturing of the company's products.
The gigafactory's entry into production and the launch of the CA6HV3 highlight FAW Group's commitment to building a national automotive brand and accelerating the layout of its new energy vehicle business. It also underscores FAW Group's dedication to pursuing green innovation and leading the development of the hydrogen energy industry.
At the launch ceremony, Jinpu New Area and FAW Jiefang Dalian Diesel Engine signed an Investment Agreement for the FAW Jiefang Dalian Medium and Heavy-Duty Engine Upgrade and Renovation Project. The total investment of the project is expected to reach 614 million yuan, covering 5-7L medium-duty engines, heavy-duty hydrogen engines, and production lines. Notably, the CA6HV3 production line is the world's first hydrogen engine production line.
