The "Navigating the Future – International Exchange and Collaboration in the New Era Dialogue & Optics Valley 2024: 15th Chang-lin Tien Forum" took place on Dec 11 in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC). This event gathered over 300 academicians, university presidents, young scholars, and OVC entrepreneurs.

During the event, the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association (BCAIA) was inaugurated. The association aims to attract Berkeley alumni, Chang-lin Tien's disciples, and top talents worldwide to innovate and start businesses in Wuhan, contributing to the development of the global OVC.

Distinguished guests included Deng Zhongshan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Wang Zhenlin, vice president of Nanjing University; Jeffrey S. Lehman, president of New York University Shanghai; and Chris Tremewan, international relations researcher at Oakland University. They explored topics such as scientific and educational innovation, industrial upgrading, and international cooperation.

"OVC has been at the forefront of chip technology for a long time, drawing global attention. Its Chang-lin Tien Center will help attract international talents for entrepreneurship and employment, encouraging more participation in the independent development and application of chips," said Deng Zhongshan.

The chairman of the BCAIA, Wu Zeqiang, plans to use the association to attract alumni from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong to invest in OVC, bridging Chinese and international talent exchange.

In November 2023, OVC supported the establishment of the Chang-lin Tien Center, which integrates diverse functions such as visits, exchange, cooperation, training, and entrepreneurial incubation. The center has recently facilitated bringing internationally renowned teams to cooperate with OVC enterprises in drone technology.

The Tien brothers are credited with establishing the Chang-lin Tien Center. Chang-lin Tien is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, the first Chinese-American chancellor of UC Berkeley, and one of the first foreign academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His brother, Chang-Cho Tien, a prominent overseas Chinese leader, formerly served as the chief designer at Boeing and is known as the company's "design master".
