Inner Mongolia Baofeng Coal-Based New Materials Co launched the first production line of its Phase I project on Nov 22, which has an annual capacity of 1 million metric tons of olefins.
This line's first batch of qualified polyolefin products has already been produced and dispatched.
The company was established in Ordos in 2020 and has invested approximately 47.8 billion yuan ($6.56 billion) in this project.
The project includes the construction of a facility that can produce 2.6 million tons of coal-to-olefins and 400,000 tons of green hydrogen coupling olefins annually, utilizing the most advanced modern coal chemical technology and equipment.
The total olefins production capacity for Phase I is 3 million tons per year, making it the largest single-site coal-to-olefins project in the world. The overall project plan aims to produce 5 million tons of olefins annually.
The project features a tightly integrated industrial chain that produces high-end chemical products to meet domestic market demand, enhance import substitution, and reduce dependence on oil and gas resources. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to national energy security.
