China’s 144-hour visa-free stay time and restricted items

How to calculate the stay time under the 144-hour visa-free policy?

The calculation does not consider the actual time of arrival but starts counting from midnight the next day. Ensure your onward flight or travel to a third country or region is scheduled before the end of the 144-hour period.

For Example:
Arrival: You arrive in Beijing at 2:00 PM on Nov 20.

Start of 144-hour period: The clock starts at 12:00 AM on Nov 21.

End of 144-hour period: You must leave by 11:59 PM on Nov 26.

What items are restricted from being brought into the country?

1. Weapons and Ammunition

Guns and Ammunition: Including pistols, rifles, submachine guns, signal guns, air guns, toy guns that resemble real weapons, and their components.
Explosives: Such as bombs, grenades, fireworks, fireworks cartridges, and other explosive materials.

2. Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances

Illegal Drugs : Including heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and other controlled substances.

Precursor Chemicals : Such as ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, acetic anhydride, and other chemicals used in the illicit manufacture of drugs.

3. Biological and Infectious Materials

Pathogenic Organisms: Including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms that can cause disease.

Medical Waste : Including discarded syringes, blood samples, and other potentially infectious materials.

4. Animal and Plant Products

Live Animals: Except dogs and cats, all other live mammals, birds, fish, insects, and other invertebrates are prohibited.

Meat and Dairy Products: Including raw or cooked meat, internal organs, dairy products, and eggs from non-approved sources.

Plants and Seeds: Seeds, seedlings, cut flowers, and other plant materials with reproductive capabilities are restricted.

5. Other Prohibited Items

Counterfeit Goods: Including fake currency, brand-name products, and pirated media.

Toxic and Hazardous Materials: Such as acids, corrosives, flammable liquids, and radioactive substances.

Cultural Relics and Antiquities: Without proper documentation and permits, these items may be prohibited.
