Twelve elegant artifacts from the Yangzhou Museum recently attracted attention from French visitors at the exhibition Tang China — A Cosmopolitan Dynasty (7th-10th Century), which commenced at the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in Paris on Nov 18.

Historically, Yangzhou was an important city and transportation hub, especially during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Cultural relics unearthed in the city testify to its economic and social prosperity during that glorious period.

The exhibited cultural treasures included four national first-grade cultural relics, two national second-grade cultural relics, and one national third-grade cultural relic, spanning metal wares, silverware and porcelain.

A gold comb adorned with Flying Apsaras patterns and a pair of gem-inlaid gold earrings demonstrated the unparalleled aesthetics and exquisite craftsmanship of the Tang Dynasty.

Meanwhile, elegant porcelain pieces from renowned kilns in China, such as a blue and white porcelain plate with floral patterns from the Gongyi kiln in Henan province, showcased the intricate porcelain artistry and cultural exchanges during that prosperous dynasty.
