The 2024 Zhoushan Islands Marathon is set to start at 7:30 am on Nov 24 at the Putuo Grand Theater in Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province.

This year's marathon has attracted participants from 17 countries and regions, including China, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Canada, and Ethiopia.

The total number of participants is 15,000, with 3,000 running in the full marathon, 6,000 in the half-marathon, and 6,000 in the fitness run and family run. Notably, 78 percent of the full marathon and half-marathon participants are from outside Zhoushan, while 24 percent of those in the fitness and family runs are non-local.

The marathon course has been optimized since last year to feature more coastal routes, allowing runners to enjoy scenic views of the sea, islands, and bridges and highlighting the unique charm of the island setting.

In addition to maintaining the top prize of 30,000 yuan ($4,142), this year's event introduces special awards for Zhoushan-born marathon participants and record-breakers.

Organizers of this year's marathon will use AI technology to create personalized marathon documentaries for participants, capturing their most memorable running moments.

From Nov 22 to 25, marathon participants can visit 14 scenic spots for free. The event will also feature an upgraded Zhoushan Islands Marathon Carnival integrating culture, sports, and tourism.
