The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People's Republic of China is set to commence in Sanya, Hainan province, on Friday. The torch relay event for the Games was held in the city on Sunday, where 107 torchbearers from various industries passed the torch in a relay spanning land, sea and air.
The torch relay started at Haihong Square in Sanya Bay, known as the "Coconut Dream Corridor", a distinctive resort area on the island province. Sanya Bay, one of China's earliest coastal tourism hubs, has been at the forefront of efforts toward establishing an international tourism consumption center.
Holding the torch relay kickoff ceremony at this location aims to allow torchbearers to witness the new landscape of innovation and development in the Hainan Free Trade Port and feel the determination of the Chinese nation toward the future, said the event organizer.
The torch relay traversed 3.8 kilometers of sandy beaches and three kilometers of roads in Sanya Bay before transitioning to a 4.5-kilometer aerial relay starting from Haiyue Square. Continuing through a 5.4-kilometer sea route from the Sanya Yacht Tourism Center to the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club, with the beautiful lighthouse as a backdrop, this relay route connects the land, sea and air.
A total of 131 torchbearers, including 12 for the lighting ceremony, 107 for the on-site relay, and 12 for the opening ceremony, were arranged. Along the route, the relay showcased industries such as the yacht economy, low-altitude economy and sports and coastal resort tourism, with a focus on highlighting Hainan's historical and cultural heritage, its picturesque coastal natural scenery and the remarkable achievements in economic and social development through the construction of the free trade port, according to the organizer.
"The Games are a great platform to promote communication and unity among all ethnic groups. Participating in the torch relay is truly exciting, and I look forward to the thrilling moment when the main torch is lit at the opening ceremony," said Tian Shifang from Hunan province.
As the torch relay in Sanya took place, the online torch relay officially concluded. From the launch of the torch network relay mini-program on Oct 9 until 12 am on Nov 16, lasting 39 days, a total of 1.91 million participants engaged in the online torch relay, covering all provinces, regions and municipalities nationwide.
