A 220-kilovolt power transmission line project commenced operation recently in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to aid electricity demand for one of the region's eight major industrial programs.

Through the newly built transmission line, power will be sent to a local 550,000-ton electrolytic aluminum program, which will generate an annual power consumption of around 7.5 billion kilowatt-hours.

It marks the latest efforts of Xinjiang-located State Grid Changji Electric Power Supply Co, which oversees the power supply to the newly built transmission line, to optimize power management for energy-intensive industries like aluminum production for efficient energy use that is considered essential amid companies' green transformation.

State Grid Changji Electric Power Supply Co said that it will step up efforts to guide clients in energy-intensive sectors like steel, coal-fired power and chemicals, to opt for green energy solutions to contribute to the region's decarbonization goals.
