In the run-up to the National Day holiday, the culture and tourism department of Taizhou city, located in East China's Jiangsu province, is launching over 600 wonderful cultural and tourism activities to give people a true break from the daily grind.
With the current year marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Taizhou will hold a series of cultural performances to add to the festive cheer and peaceful atmosphere.
They include theatrical performances, concerts for the Chinese zither or guqin, as well as concerts and choral performances.
As Taizhou is the ancestral home of Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, the Taizhou Grand Theatre will stage rousing programs of Mei style Peking Opera, local operas and newly created operas to add to the fun.
During the holiday, Taizhou Art Museum, Xinghua Cultural Museum and Jiangyan Art Museum will hold exhibitions of calligraphy and painting works, photography and other activities. These will all help to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Touring in Taizhou, people can also taste delicious crab cuisine and local dishes. A wide range of cooking and culinary events will be held in various regions of the city, including a mutton market fair in the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone's Diaopu sub-district and a steamed dumpling food culture activity in the county-level city of Jingjiang.
In addition, Taizhou's 16 public sports venues will be open to the public at either no or at a low cost, meeting the fitness needs of citizens during the break.
