Chen Xiongzhen, a retired agricultural expert from China in 2022, is making significant contributions to Ethiopia, a country that is primarily focused on agriculture and animal husbandry, by sharing knowledge of silk farming. In 2023, she was selected to teach at the country's Alage ATVET College.
She developed her own curriculum and teaching materials based on her studies in the United States. Her engaging teaching style won over students, who eagerly participated in and enjoyed her classes. She utilized multimedia videos to introduce the silk farming practices used in China.
The key focus of silk farming is the silkworm itself, and Chen put significant effort into selecting silkworms that can adapt to the local temperature. Chen also offered guidance on the establishment of silk production bases and helped other teachers from Ethiopia.
Her dedication earned recognition from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Ethiopian authorities for her outstanding contributions. Beyond her professionalism as a teacher, she built strong relationships with local communities, sharing cultural experiences and knowledge.
