The Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism recently announced its proposed list of national 4A-level tourist attractions, with the intention to designate theZhongnan Mountain · NanwutaiScenic Area in Xi'an as a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
Formerly known as Taiyi Mountain, Zhongnan Mountain · Nanwutai has an elevation of 1,688 meters, featuring five peak platforms resembling Guanyin, Wenshu, Qingliang, Lingying, and Sheshen – hence its name.
Situated south of Wutai Mountain, it is the core area of the Qinling Zhongnanshan Geopark in Xi'an, renowned for its picturesque beauty as the "area of divine elegance in Zhongnan".
Historically revered during the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties as a sacred site for imperial tours and pilgrimages, Nanshantai continues to captivate visitors today with its steep mountain forms, overlapping peaks, and dense forests. With nearly 1,000 plant species and over 95-percent vegetation coverage, the area remains a beloved destination among tourists.
