Dezhou Museum, a landmark located in the picturesque Culture and Sports Center in Dezhou, opened to the public in 2012. The museum provides a wide-ranging exploration of the region's rich history.
Dezhou Museum's permanent exhibitions offer visitors a panoramic view of the city's evolution, cultural relics, and folk traditions across various eras.
The exhibition titled "Historical Footprints" presents a chronological journey through Dezhou's history, tracing its human and cultural development from ancient times to the present. Visitors can explore more than 5,000 years of civilization of the region, along with over 2,000 years of the city's history.
"Civilized Relics" is centered around the museum's most distinguished artifacts, with a particular emphasis on ceramics from Song (960–1279) to Yuan (1271–1368) dynasties, as well as Dezhou's famed black pottery. Renowned as one of the cradles of Chinese black pottery culture, Dezhou's association with this art form stretches back to the Neolithic period and the Longshan Culture period dating back 4,000 years.
The exhibition "City Memory" focuses on Dezhou's vibrant urban life and the thriving canal civilization during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1911). The museum brings history to life through simulated scenes that recreate the once-bustling ancient city of Dezhou and leave an indelible impression of its historical importance.
Dezhou Museum also boasts a remarkable collection of over 100 national-level artifacts. Among its most prized possessions is a jade dagger from the Western Zhou Dynasty (c. 11th century–771 BC) carved in relief with a twin phoenix motif. This intricately engraved artifact graced with stylized phoenixes is a prime example of Western Zhou jade craftsmanship and offers valuable insights into the artistic and cultural traditions of that era.
