Taicang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, was awarded as the Best Case for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) City/Community at the first Sino-European Corporate ESG Best Practice Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, on Sept 13. It was the only city case to receive this honor.
The conference aimed to enhance communication and cooperation between Chinese and European enterprises in sustainable development, promoting international development and collaboration in fostering new quality productive forces.
During the event, a representative from the office in Germany delivered a comprehensive overview of the zone's industry collaboration, innovation, talent acquisition, German-style ecology construction, and policy support. The attendees held this presentation in high regard.
Taicang, known as the "hometown of German enterprises", is a model city for Sino-German cooperation, having achieved significant results in industrial collaboration, talent cultivation, cultural integration, and sustainable development.
The Taicang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is the central hub for Taicang's cooperation with Germany with industrial clusters in areas such as new energy vehicle components and industrial machinery. It has established a multifaceted and in-depth cooperation system with Germany across industries, education, culture, sports, and public welfare.
A shining example is the Sino-German Energy Efficiency Network, jointly established by Taicang and Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in 2021. This initiative can save over 25,000 megawatt-hours of energy and reduce carbon emissions by 38,000 metric tons each year.
