Australian extreme sports athlete Tahi Munroe won the speed race of a wingsuit world championship held in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, on Wednesday.

The world's top 16 fliers competed in the tenth World Wingsuit League Wingsuit Flying World Championship, held at the Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park in Zhangjiajie from Monday to Thursday.

Competitors launched from a 1,458-meter-high platform on the mountain, gliding 1.3 kilometres to the finish line, descending 990 meters vertically before landing.

Munroe finished the speed race with 24.703 seconds, followed by Jean Wallis from South Africa with 24.766 seconds and Norwegian athlete Joakim Lerhaugen with 25.266 seconds.

The final competition of the fly-through target section will be held on Thursday. Contestants must fly through a target ranging from 0.8 meters at the outer ring to 10 centimeters at the center.

Each flier gets two chances, with their final score determined by the total number of rings struck across both attempts.
