At the 2024 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum (TELC), which took place from Sept 10 to 11, sets of data, cases, and various products vividly showcased North China's Shanxi province's significant achievements in promoting comprehensive energy revolution reforms and advancing green and low-carbon energy development.
From 2019 to 2024, the province has seen a steady increase in the scale and generation of new energy and clean energy installations. With the blossoming of wind power, solar energy, biomass energy, hydrogen energy, methanol, and geothermal energy, the province's energy supply structure continues to optimize, accelerating the transition towards multi-driven systems.
As of the end of July, the province's new energy and clean energy installations had exceeded 65 million kilowatts, accounting for 47.8 percent of the total installed electricity capacity, with a new energy consumption rate of over 97 percent.
The province is rapidly advancing the research, development, and application of advanced energy-saving technologies, introducing the nation's first local regulations on clean and efficient coal utilization, and accelerating the formation of a new energy consumption model. In the first three years of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), the province's energy intensity decreased by 10.9 percent, ranking at the forefront nationwide.
Shanxi recently issued a work plan to expand green industries, enhance green energy technology, promote a "key industries + green electricity" model, innovate green electricity supply mechanisms, and improve supporting measures for green electricity consumption.
Through TELC, Shanxi is evidently propelling comprehensive green transformation in economic and social development and striving to lead the way and set an example in the new era of the energy revolution.
