Uganda's ambassador to China visits Wuxi

Zhao Jianjun, mayor of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, recently met with Oliver Wonekha, ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to China, to discuss project cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and exchanges in economy and trade.

They also witnessed the signing ceremony of the 2 billion yuan ($281 million) SIMI Group Headquarters and SIMI Intelligent Terminal Industry project.

Following a brief introduction of Wuxi's economic and social development, Zhao expressed hope that the embassy will continue to support exporting more Jiangsu-made and Wuxi-made products to Africa and deep exchanges between Wuxi and Uganda in tourism, education, and youth.

The mayor also shared that he expects SIMI Group to produce more terminal products in Wuxi and expand cooperation with local suppliers in electric motor cars and cross-border e-commerce.

Oliver Wonekha noted that since the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative, Uganda has actively promoted pragmatic cooperation with China in economy, trade, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

Uganda stands as a founding member of the East African Community, while Wuxi is a century-old commercial and industrial hub nestled in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta. The ambassador emphasized the favorable results of the partnerships between these two entities as it will invigorate the overall regional vitality of East Africa.

The Ugandan ambassador expressed the hope that Wuxi would foster friendly cooperative relations with additional cities in Uganda. Additionally, she encouraged Wuxi enterprises to consider investment opportunities within Uganda.

SIMI Group, a prominent multinational corporation, engages in industrial investments and cross-border e-commerce. With a keen emphasis on the African market, the company has strategically set up production facilities in nations such as Uganda, solidifying a substantial market presence for its products within the region.
