Inner Mongolian judoka wins silver at Paris Paralympics

Wang Yue, a visually impaired judoka from North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, secured a silver medal for China in the women's 70kg J2 category on Sept 7 at the Paris Paralympics.

Wang, 27, lost most of her sight due to a childhood fever that caused retinal damage, leaving her with a level-two visual impairment.

She began her professional judo training at the age of 13 when she joined the women's judo team at the Inner Mongolia Sports Professional College.

Her talent quickly shone through in both national and international competitions.

In 2021, Wang made her Paralympic debut in Tokyo, earning a bronze medal in the women's 63kg J2 category. Her success continued at the 19th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, where she won gold in the women's 70kg J2 event.

Earlier this year, Wang dominated at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix, winning gold medals in three consecutive events.

Wang's coach, Geng Xiaofei, praised her dedication and positive attitude, stating, "Wang Yue has always been incredibly hardworking and enthusiastic in her training. With the Paris cycle now complete, she will continue to strive for excellence. I believe she will achieve even greater success in the future!"
