Jinan ranks 3rd in China's best-performing cities

The Milken Institute released the Best-Performing Cities China 2023-2024 report on Sept 3.

The report highlights Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province and a burgeoning e-commerce hub, as the top performer among first- and second-tier cities. Wuhan made a notable leap from 29th place in 2022 to 2nd in the large cities category, with Jinan, Changsha, and Chengdu following closely behind in that order.

Huang Huayue, managing director for the China region at the Milken Institute's Research Department, commented on Jinan's improved economic vitality, noting its rise to 3rd place. The city's progress is attributed to the establishment of three key strategic zones: the Jinan Innovative Zone, the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and China's first Science and Technology Innovation Financial Reform Pilot Zone, which have collectively boosted Jinan's industrial diversification.
