Baotou holds intangible cultural heritage feast

The 2024 China Yellow River Intangible Cultural Heritage Food Month kicked off on Aug 31 at Baotou Golden Street in Baotou city, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

This feast features over 120 intangible cultural heritage projects from the nine provinces along the Yellow River – Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, and Shandong – and Beijing. More than 200 representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage are participating.

The event is divided into five themed areas for visitors to explore.

In the intangible cultural heritage food area, Wang Chunhua, a national-level representative inheritor of the Shandong Zhoucun pancake-making technique, said, "This is my first time in Baotou, and I've felt the warmth of the people here."

Jia Fengying, the founder of the Fusshengyuan brand, showcased Baotou's local specialty, cooked chopped entrails of sheep, saying, "This cooking craft has been preserved for 40 years. Next, we plan to use cold chain distribution to bring it to clients across the country."

Beyond the food area, visitors enjoyed intangible cultural heritage programs in the performing arts area. In the interactive experience area, they learned traditional crafts such as paper cutting, embroidery, carving, and painting.

Visitors also purchased cultural and creative products in the market area, while the tea culture area offered insights into tea-making techniques and related customs.
