The Zhoushan Opium War Museum was officially designated as a national second-class museum on Aug 23, making it the first national-level museum in Dinghai district and the second in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province.

Located at the site of an ancient Opium War battlefield in western Dinghai, the museum serves as a thematic memorial of the two defensive battles by local military and residents in 1840 and 1841.

The museum not only showcases ancient books, photos, and cultural relics related to the Opium War in Zhoushan, but also focuses on scene reconstruction, exhibitions, and multimedia presentations. It adopts modern technologies to provide immersive scenes for visitors, enhancing its visual appeal and interactivity.

With vivid relief decorations and ancient artifacts, the memorial museum allows visitors to revisit the historical event and experience the profound historical changes over the past century.

On the upper floor of the museum is a shrine dedicated to the memory of three generals in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) who heroically sacrificed their lives in the aforementioned battles. It was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang in 1989.
