Photographers from around the country have recently been flocking to a reservoir in Dalian, Liaoning province, to capture the beauty of black-faced spoonbills.

There, they can capture the avian residents as they bow their heads to search for food or gracefully take flight. They create a naturally harmonious and beautiful scene against a backdrop of lush green lotus leaves and distant verdant mountains.

Dalian is a vital breeding site for the black-faced spoonbill, which is under national first-class protection in China.

Earlier this year, Zhuanghe of Dalian established a black-faced spoonbill habitat protection site on a reservoir in the Zhangtun residential community of Changsheng sub-district, known as Guanjia Lake.

In recent years, local authorities have made efforts to provide a favorable living space for the birds by cleaning up the Zhangtun Reservoir's shoreline, refurbishing roads, constructing ponds conducive to nesting and foraging, restoring and expanding wetland areas, and planting greenery.

"The Guanjia Lake has become a paradise for birds. It also attracts hundreds of egrets and herons during the summer. They come to the reservoir to feed during the day and fly back to the surrounding mountains to rest at night," said Tang Huadong, head of the Zhangtun community.
