The Du Xiaoman World Snooker Xi'an Grand Prix 2024, a new addition to the World Snooker Tour calendar this season, kicked off at the Qujiang Sports Complex in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on Aug 19.
The event has attracted 73 snooker players from over 20 countries and regions, including China, the United Kingdom, Australia, Thailand, and Belgium. Over seven days, they will compete for a total prize fund of 850,000 pounds ($1.1 million).
Following a tournament structure of knockout matches, semifinals, and finals, the ultimate showdown will occur on Aug 25 at the Qujiang Sports Complex.
On Aug 19, star players like Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Allen, and Ding Junhui dazzled the audience with an outstanding snooker spectacle.
The event, supported by Shaanxi Tourism Group and Shaanxi Sports Group, will provide a top-notch competitive environment. Offering unique cultural experiences through special tourism products and services will allow players and spectators from around the world to immerse themselves in Xi'an's charm.
In addition to the competition, players will explore attractions like Huaqing Palace, Bai Lu Yuan Studios, and Silk Road Paradise, experiencing Shaanxi culture and fostering international friendship.
Xi'an has been striving to become a world-class sports event host city, having previously organized events like the World Aquatics Diving World Cup. Now, hosting the World Snooker Grand Prix, Xi'an has made history, solidifying its reputation as a city of sporting excellence.
