The 60th anniversary of the premiering of Shanghai Ballet’s The White-Haired Girl was marked over the weekend with three highly-acclaimed performances at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
The iconic production showcases the original spirit of Chinese ballet, infused as it is with rich cultural heritage and distinct Chinese characteristics. Adapted from northern Chinese yangge folk dances, The White-Haired Girl has been cherished by successive generations of ballet fans since it was first performed in 1964.
