In the first half of this year, Nandan county achieved a regional GDP of 8.745 billion yuan ($1.22 billion), a year-on-year increase of 12 percent, ranking first in growth rate among 111 counties (cities, districts) in the entire region.
Nandan is a crucial node city on the New International Land Sea Trade Corridor and is the world's largest lead-zinc production base. Guangxi listed seven companies in the "2023 China Top 500 Enterprises" list, among which Nandan's Nanfang Metal Company has grown and thrived.
The industrial sector primarily drove the 12 percent GDP growth. With the lead of the non-ferrous metal industry, Nandan has firmly established its "1+3+N" industrial system, consisting of one hundred-billion-yuan industry in non-ferrous metals, three 10-billion-yuan industries in Danquan liquor, health products, and new energy, and numerous billion-yuan industries in deep processing of calcium carbonate, wood, and others.
In the first half of this year, the output value of the liquor industry, primarily led by Danquan, reached 2.56 billion yuan, a 22.8 percent year-on-year increase. Projects are progressing steadily, with industrial investments totaling 1.224 billion yuan in the first half.
During the May Day holiday this year, Nandan received 232,000 visitors, a 37.1 percent increase year-on-year, with tourism consumption reaching 150 million yuan, a 34.6 percent increase, making it one of the most popular niche tourist destinations nationwide. In the first half of the year, the county received a total of 3.283 million visitors, a 23.5 percent increase year-on-year, with tourism consumption totaling 3.42 billion yuan, a 30.6 percent increase.
