Over 80 young people from Hong Kong arrived in Hangzhou on Aug 12 for a cultural exploration trip organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
During their five-day visit, they will explore landmarks such as West Lake and the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum, experiencing the city's rich cultural heritage and advancements in technology, economy, and sports. The goal is to deepen their understanding of China and foster a sense of national pride.
A highlight of the welcome dinner was the presence of Vivian Kong Man Wai, the Olympic gold medalist in women's epee at the Paris Games. Kong is now serving as assistant manager of external affairs at the Hong Kong Jockey Club and is leading the delegation. She has expressed her commitment to using her platform to unite people and give back to society.
Launched in 2022, the program is a key youth development initiative by the Hong Kong SAR Government, aimed at broadening horizons, teaching, and fostering a positive outlook on life and a strong sense of cultural identity among young people. Hong Kong's Chief Secretary Eric Chan encouraged participants to emulate the perseverance of athletes and work to achieve their dreams.
