Southwest China's Guizhou province held a tasting and promotional conference in Hong Kong on Aug 12.
Over 20 major baijiu companies from Guizhou showcased nearly 100 products during the event, which was attended by representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, and more than 60 representatives from Hong Kong's baijiu business associations, totaling over 200 people.
In recent years, Guizhou has accelerated its transformation into a significant national baijiu production base, nurturing top-notch baijiu enterprises and driving the high-quality development of world-renowned baijiu companies like Moutai Group.
Last year, Guizhou's baijiu companies that have an annual output of over 300,000 kiloliters achieved a 6.5-percent year-on-year growth rate in output, while industrial added value grew by over 10 percent, and business income increased by 11.7 percent.
Hong Kong possesses a vast amount of resources in the liquor trade and distribution sector, making it a crucial region for baijiu circulation. In 2023, Hong Kong's total liquor export value exceeded HK$8 billion ($1.02 million), with a 37-percent annual increase, marking its third consecutive year of growth.
The event is expected to deepen cooperation between Guizhou and Hong Kong in economy, trade, culture and tourism, promote the market expansion for Guizhou's high-quality baijiu, and enhance the brand awareness and market competitiveness of Guizhou baijiu.
