The Bei Diao 996 scientific research ship recently docked at the Sanya Nanshan Port Public Scientific Research Pier as part of the pier's trial operations.
The Sanya Nanshan Port Public Scientific Research Pier became China's first public scientific research pier capable of accommodating the largest mainstream scientific research vessels.
Nanshan Port is conveniently located just 164 kilometers from the 1,000-meter-deep sea area. It focuses on marine scientific research, marine trials, and supporting services for near-port scientific research industries, while also catering to sea and land transportation needs.
As an important base for deep-sea scientific research support, more than 60 scientific research units have conducted deep-sea research at the pier, completing over 900 scientific research service voyages so far this year, with a target of 1,023 by 2023.
With a berth length of 278 meters, the pier can provide berthing, loading and unloading, supplies, and ship maintenance services for various types of scientific research vessels, meeting the needs of scientific research institutions and marine enterprises in Hainan for scientific research experiments and maintenance of research equipment.
To enhance the intensive use of resources, the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City is promoting the linkage of projects such as the Deep-sea Equipment Industrial Park and the Deep-sea Technology Innovation Public Platform to better serve deep-sea research and industrial development.
