The Tea for Harmony · Cultural Salon and Xi'an Culture and Tourism Promotion kicked off at the China Cultural Center in Sydney, Australia, on July 27.
Approximately 80 guests attended the opening ceremony, including Xiao Xiayong, minister counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Australia, Wang Shuyu, cultural counselor of the Consulate-General of China in Sydney, Professor Ian Howard of the UNSW School of Art & Design, David Van Nunen, president of the Australian Watercolour Institute, and Liu Dong, director of the China Cultural Center in Sydney and acting director of the Chinese Tourism Office in Sydney.
Liu welcomed the guests and highlighted the successful promotion of Xi'an culture and tourism activities in Sydney, which will enhance Xi'an's visibility in Australia.
Xiao emphasized the event's importance in showcasing Xi'an's cultural art in Australia, injecting new vitality into China-Australia cultural exchanges and cooperation, and promoting mutual learning and understanding between the two nations.
Howard shared his fond memories of Xi'an, encouraging Australians to explore Shaanxi's rich art and culture.
The opening ceremony featured a mesmerizing Guzheng solo performance, a graceful solo dance showcasing the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and a Tang tea ceremony recreating a Tang imperial tea banquet scene, impressing the audience.
The promotional event, running until Aug 30, will include lectures, collaborative art activities by Chinese and Australian artists, and an exhibition by renowned Xi'an artists.
