To strengthen cultural exchanges and understanding between Chinese and American youth, the "US Youth Ambassadors in Xiamen 2024" event kicked off in Xiamen, Fujian province, from July 23 to 30. This initiative welcomed a group of young visitors from Baltimore and Orange County for an eight-day visit. During their stay, they participated in a variety of cultural activities alongside local peers.
On July 27, the group arrived at the Haicang campus of Xiamen Foreign Language School. In a drama session about the famous Chinese poet Li Bai, they donned costumes to walk in his shoes, stepping back into the world of the Tang Dynasty (618–907). They were also captivated by the charm of cloisonné enamel and made school badges as gifts for each other.
On the same day at Xiamen Music School, the US students toured the music hall, classrooms, and rehearsal rooms. They had the opportunity to try playing traditional Chinese instruments and teamed up with their Chinese counterparts to perform a piece of music together.
Xiamen boasts many time-honored brands that represent the city's legacy. The youngsters explored famous brands alongside the Zhongshan Road and visited Jiangxia Mansion, the top ancestral hall in southern Fujian.
During the event, Chinese and American youth forged lasting friendships. A spark for traditional Chinese culture was also ignited within their hearts, which will blossom into stronger ties and further promote mutual understanding.
