Central China's Hubei province recently issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Laser Industry", outlining a comprehensive strategy to achieve five major tasks, including promoting innovation and extending the industrial chain.

The goal is to raise the scale of the laser industry to 50 billion yuan ($7 billion) by 2026, establishing Hubei as a global leader in the laser industry and a beacon of technological innovation.

The document emphasizes the need to enhance the role of enterprises as the main drivers of technological innovation and encourage laser companies to increase investment in research and development. Specifically, entities undertaking the construction of the national original innovation source in the laser field may receive a one-time subsidy equal to 10 percent of project investment, not exceeding 10 million yuan for a single project.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to expand the laser industrial chain. The document specifies that local companies are encouraged to strengthen their capabilities in fiber laser production and to address weaknesses in upstream core materials and key components by attracting leading companies from outside the province to establish operations in Hubei.

Additionally, priority will be put on accelerating the integration of laser industries with other fields by promoting the research, development, and application of various equipment involved in laser processing, laser cleaning, laser therapy and laser radar.

The aim of these measures is to increase the scale of related industries such as high-end manufacturing and photovoltaics and lithium batteries to over 1 trillion yuan. In terms of enterprise cultivation, the goal is to establish one enterprise with revenue exceeding 20 billion yuan, one with revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan, and two with revenue exceeding 5 billion yuan.
