Guizhou's paper-cut art shines at Paris 2024 Summer Olympics

The Guizhou paper-cut artwork "a hundred blessings" recently made an appearance at the China House of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, showcasing the beauty of Chinese sports culture alongside other precious artifacts and images.

One of the creators of the artwork, Deng Rongrong, was a professional table tennis player and coach before retiring, representing Guizhou at the first to third National Games.

After retirement, Deng wanted to promote sports through the traditional Chinese folk art of paper-cutting. After years of study and practice, she enhanced her paper-cutting skills and artistic understanding by learning from experts, researching extensively, and exchanging ideas.

The background of the artwork is composed of historical forms of the Chinese character "fu" (meaning "blessings"), creating a visual contrast with the main character "fu" and bringing more culture and artistry to the piece.

The China House is a comprehensive service facility established and operated by the Chinese Olympic Committee for the participation of the Chinese sports delegation in international multi-sport events.

The first China House was established during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. After more than 10 years of development, it has provided a strong platform for promoting the spirit of Chinese sports, showcasing traditional Chinese culture, and enhancing sports exchanges between China and other countries.

The China House at the Paris Olympic Games was included on the list of high-quality cultural exchange activities between China and France in 2024, which marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the China-France Cultural and Tourism Year.
