The 9th Luolong Torch Festival kicked-off in Chenggong district, Kunming, Yunnan province on July 28. The two-day event offered a diverse range of activities for tourists and locals alike.
Festival highlights included folk songs, Yunnan opera performances, and calligraphy and painting exhibitions. The long street banquet, featuring local specialties, was a particular crowd-pleaser.
Visitors also enjoyed a cultural wares market, dancing and singing, lighting ceremonies and the eagerly-anticipated bonfire parties.
The torch festival skillfully blended tradition with modernity, showcasing the unique customs of the Yi people alongside the vibrant character of contemporary Luolong residential life.
In addition to enriching the cultural life of the local community, the festival offered young people the chance to engage with intangible cultural heritage, such as crafting traditional tile cats. This hands-on experience not only honed their practical skills but also deepened their appreciation for traditional culture.
