Location and territory of Pingyao

Pingyao county is located in the center of North China's Shanxi province, southwest of the Taiyuan basin and north of Taiyue Mountain. 

It borders Qixian county in the east, Fenyang in the west, Qinyuan county in the south, Wenshui county in the north, Jiexiu in the southwest, and Wuxiang and Qinxian counties in the southeast.

The county seat is 81 kilometers from Yuci district, Jinzhong, 94 kilometers from the provincial capital of Taiyuan, and 616 kilometers away from the national capital of Beijing.

Pingyao occupies a total area of 1,260 square kilometers.
