North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, a treasure trove of energy, boasts a rich blend of resources including coal, natural gas, and abundant wind and solar power, making it fertile ground for the development of the energy industry.

Leveraging its natural advantages, Inner Mongolia has set ambitious goals. This entails taking the lead among all provinces and autonomous regions in establishing an energy supply system centered on new energy sources and pioneering the development of a novel electricity system primarily powered by renewable energy. The roadmap aims to surpass thermal power capacity with new energy installations by 2025 and to outpace thermal power generation with renewable energy by 2030.

As of the end of May this year, the total installed capacity of new energy in the region had reached 101.58 GW, constituting 45 percent of the region’s total power capacity, a 7.3-percentage-point increase year-on-year.

Inner Mongolia has become the first in China to break the milestone of 100 million kW in new energy installations, generating approximately 230 billion kWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by over 190 million metric tons.

The new energy equipment manufacturing sector is emerging as a strong driver of industrial and economic growth in Inner Mongolia.

From January to May this year, investments in wind, solar, and hydrogen storage equipment manufacturing projects across the region totaled 64.94 billion yuan ($8.95 billion), a 2.4-fold increase compared to the same period last year and accounting for 65 percent of the annual investment plan.

The region currently has a comprehensive capacity of 5 million kW for wind power, a supply capacity of 30.5 million kW for photovoltaic components, a production capacity of 450 sets for hydrogen energy equipment, and a storage capacity of 2 million kWh for energy storage equipment.

A full industrial chain for wind, solar, and hydrogen storage equipment manufacturing has taken shape, with an output value exceeding 1.2 trillion yuan.
