The Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA) signed a cooperation agreement with the Nanjing University School of Life Sciences on July 22.
Through this collaboration, NETDA will leverage the strength of universities in research and talent and rely on leading pharmaceutical and health industry enterprises in the area to accelerate the development of a regional biopharmaceutical innovation hub.
The pharmaceutical and health industry is a key industry and major focus for future development in NETDA. The area has several representative companies with strong market prospects in the fields of active pharmaceutical ingredients, chemical drugs, pharmaceutical excipients, and medical devices.
Among them is the Biotheus biopharmaceutical project, which has a total investment of 5 billion yuan ($689.96 million) and focuses on malignant tumors and autoimmune diseases. It is able to produce 10 million antibody drugs and cell therapies annually.
In 2023, the total operating income of the pharmaceutical and health industry in the entire area reached 36.5 billion yuan.
