New archaeological evidence suggests that Sanxingdui had urban planning over 3,000 years ago, according to the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute.

Located in Guanghan, Sichuan province, the Sanxingdui Ruins cover 12 square kilometers. Their core area is an ancient city surrounded by tall city walls.

Although some sections of the walls have been damaged over time, archaeologists have managed to extrapolate the existing city walls to reconstruct the basic layout of the city site. The Sanxingdui Ancient City site covers an area of about 3.6 square kilometers and has a northwest-southeast layout.
