Sanya hosts China-ASEAN Durian Industry Seminar

On July 20, the 2024 China-ASEAN Durian Industry Seminar kicked off in Sanya, spanning three days.

This event brought together experts, scholars, entrepreneurs from the durian industry, and representatives from government departments, both domestic and international. They convened to discuss trends in durian industry development, technological innovations, and market opportunities, aiming to foster deeper cooperation and mutual benefits between China's durian industry and the ASEAN and international markets.

Situated at 18 degrees north latitude, Sanya offers exceptional natural conditions favorable for the development of efficient tropical agriculture. Currently, the durian cultivation area in Sanya exceeds 10,000 mu (667 hectares). In 2023, Sanya became the first region in China to achieve large-scale durian production, with the first batch of 1,400 acres entering the market. By 2024, the fruiting area of durian in Sanya has expanded to 4,000 mu, with an estimated yield of approximately 200 metric tons.

The opening day featured several key activities, including the establishment ceremony of the China-ASEAN Durian Technology Innovation Alliance, the unveiling ceremony of the Durian Research Institute, and the establishment ceremony of the World Durian Trade Center Sanya Office. These activities are instrumental in strengthening regional cooperation, deepening economic and trade exchanges between countries, and collectively building a win-win development pattern for the durian industry.
