A delegation of UK medical enterprises, led by Globaltech IP and the British Embassy in Beijing, visited Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, also known as Xinwu district on July 16.
The delegation toured the AstraZeneca China Healthcare IoT Innovation Center and companies within the Wuxi International Life-Science Innovation Campus (I•Campus). The delegation and WND government officials engaged in in-depth discussions on cooperation in the biopharmaceutical and digital healthcare industries.
Cui Rongguo, Party secretary of Xinwu, highlighted the rapid rise of the biopharmaceutical industry in WND, noting that the industry's output value exceeded 100 billion yuan ($13.76 billion) in 2023. The district achieved a regional GDP of 251.57 billion yuan in 2023 and maintained the highest per capita GDP among all areas of the same administrative level in Jiangsu province.
Cui emphasized that WND will continue to support local biopharmaceutical companies in expanding into the UK market and exploring new development opportunities.
Hassan Chaudhury, an expert-in-residence at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) at King's College London, praised the strong economic foundation, comprehensive industrial support, and excellent business environment of WND. He also noted the impressive quality of life in the district. Chaudhury expressed his willingness to facilitate the introduction of more UK projects to WND and assist Chinese enterprises in investing in the UK.
