In a demonstration of commitment to social welfare, Ordos invested a cumulative total of 284 million yuan ($38.90 million) in funds to safeguard people's livelihoods during the first half of 2024.

According to the Ordos civil affairs bureau, this is a 7.9-percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This substantial investment has benefited a diverse range of 157,769 individuals, including the elderly, people with disabilities, orphans, and urban and rural low-income residents and residents living in extreme poverty.

A breakdown of the expenditure reveals that 117 million yuan was allocated for various social welfare programs. Of this, 9.10 million yuan was dedicated to child welfare, 33.26 million yuan to disability welfare, and 47.67 million yuan to elderly welfare.

An additional 27.40 million yuan was spent on other social welfare initiatives, creating a comprehensive and multi-layered social safety net.

Furthermore, the city spent 167 million yuan on social assistance. This included 102 million yuan for minimum living allowances, 46.22 million yuan for support and care for individuals living in extreme poverty, 15.58 million yuan for temporary assistance, and 3.16 million yuan for other forms of living assistance.

These efforts have significantly strengthened the safety net for vulnerable populations, ensuring more robust and effective social support.
