In order to promote ecological and environmental exchanges and cooperation among Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, China will establish an innovation base for environmental protection among SCO countries to work together with all parties to advance green and low-carbon development, according to the initiative "Building the Green Development Partnership and Jointly Promoting Sustainable Development" released at the Green Development Forum of SCO Countries held in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, on July 8 and 9.
The Green Development Forum of SCO Countries advocated for the implementation of the consensus reached by SCO leaders at the Astana summit in Kazakhstan on July 4, the effective implementation of the SCO Ecological Year in 2024, and the SCO Year of Sustainable Development in 2025, aiming to strengthen cooperation in the field of environmental protection and promote ecological security.
The forum also proposed that all parties exchange technical knowledge, experience, and practices in waste management; expand cooperation in environmental science and technology in the development and application of resource-saving, energy-saving, green, and low-emission technologies; and promote various forms of cooperation, such as joint research, project implementation, expert exchanges, and personnel training.
Approximately 350 representatives from SCO member states participated in the forum, which was aimed at promoting deep cooperation among SCO countries in areas such as green energy, green industries, and climate change mitigation.
