In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has comprehensively promoted ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin by reducing carbon emissions and pollution and expanding greenery, making significant contributions to the Yellow River's sustainable development.
The Fenhe National Wetland Park in Jiexiu, a model for Shanxi's efforts in protecting the Fenhe River and improving water quality, has become home to 332 plant species and 155 wild animal species due to its excellent ecological environment and water network. Data show that from January to April this year, the proportion of good-quality water bodies in the Yellow River Basin of Shanxi increased to 91.5 percent, a year-on-year increase of 12.2 percentage points.
In terms of ecological restoration, Shanxi has comprehensively planned projects focusing on land greening, soil and water conservation, small watershed management, and mining ecological restoration. These efforts are aimed at improving the ecological carrying capacity of the Yellow River Basin for sustainable development.
While strengthening ecological protection, Shanxi is also actively promoting industrial innovation and upgrading, taking the path of green development. In the industrial sector, Shanxi is accelerating the elimination of backward production capacity and excess capacity while pushing traditional industries to become more high-end, intelligent, and environmentally-friendly.
Shanxi is also actively promoting the integrated development of the Yellow River culture and tourism industries. It has leveraged the natural scenery and cultural landscapes of the Yellow River to create a series of tourism routes and products with a local flair, which have not only attracted numerous tourists, but also promoted local economic development and employment growth.
